Ufton Adventure

Ufton Adventure offers an invaluable opportunity for young people ... It provides an essential experience to those who need a boost to their confidence, motivation and independence. The Ufton experience has empowered many pupils to become more adventurous and self reliant.

Charlie Clare, Geoffrey Fields Junior School Headteacher

Ufton Adventure is our new ambitious project. It aims to raise aspirations and improve the life chances of disadvantaged children and young people.

In the new round of awards in January 2011 Ufton Adventure was awarded a grant of £50,000. This means we will be able to build the first cabin in 2011 and will hopefully see children using the site this August.

Ufton Adventure has been trialled with a series of tented pilot camps in 2008 and 2009. These were so successful that we now aim to build a permanent centre in the woods adjacent to Ufton Court. It will sleep up to 32 children plus staff in timber cabins. The scheme will provide local, repeated and affordable opportunities for young people to inspirational outdoor activities they will not otherwise be able to access. The Ufton Adventure experience will enable young people to meet challenges and grow in confidence; their experiences will enable them to think about the way they view themselves and their futures.

More quotes from our pilot camps held at Ufton in 2009 and 2010

“I have taken away from the experience ... more confidence, believing in myself and carrying on.”
Liam 15 years

They seemed to walk and talk with a confidence gained from being away from home for the first time, facing and meeting challenges and the experience of ‘doing it for themselves’.’
Grant Strudley, Teacher

‘ I have also learnt that no matter what my fears are I should always try one thing once until you feel you have conquered your fear’
‘I learnt that it doesn't matter where you come from you can always make your life better’
Liam

‘We know these young people, we know that given the opportunity they will take it in both hands and make it their own.”
Lynda Miller, Chair of Aspire2
