Residential Visits

At Ufton Court learning comes vividly to life as children explore this rich source of historical, environmental and outdoor learning opportunities. Ufton Court is a flexible resource and schools, helped by the experienced teaching staff at Ufton, tailor a programme to meet their specific requirements.  Visiting schools have exclusive use of the house at night. Residential visits can be from one to four nights long.

 Come and live the dream!

  • Special diets catered for.

Here is a taste of some of the activities on offer:

The First Day

On arrival, the children will be met by a member of staff and will be taken on an exploration of the grounds; health and safety for outside will be covered during this time. It is sometimes possible to meet the children at the gate and start the walk from that point.

After a snack break, a member of staff will lead an exploration of the house using photographs of various rooms as evidence for the children as History Detectives to find; indoor health and safety will be covered during the exploration.

It is sometimes possible for the member of staff to be in role as a member of the Tudor household: usually a servant of the Parkyns’ family.

After lunch, we recommend an outdoor activity for the children to release some energy and for teachers to gather their thoughts!

Showing to rooms will take place with the afternoon break and will usually be organised to coincide with a fire drill, so that the children are in their rooms and unpacking.

The Banquet

We include a range of Tudor dishes at the banquet.  On request, schools can be sent Tudor music for children to practice and perform at the banquet.  Or schools are welcome to bring pre-prepared items for inclusion at the banquet – dance, music, drama.  Please discuss with a member of UC staff.

The Raid on Ufton Court

This activity is growing in popularity and is based on historical evidence of the Protestant raids which took place at Ufton Court during the 16th century. All pupils will have the opportunity to play various roles and re-enact the events. Will a Catholic Priest be found? What will happen to Francis Perkins, Lord of Ufton Manor?

First time school visit?

Is this going to be the first residential visit for your school? One of the Ufton Education Team would love to come to your school to meet the children or to talk to parents or both!  Call the office and ask for more details.

George (aged 9) from White Waltham, "This is beautiful.  I'm in history heaven!"

“I cannot express what a fantastic experience it has been for the groups of children that we have brought to Ufton Court. It had everything we wanted: history, spirituality, a sense of the world and its beauty.”  St John the Baptist School

“I thought history was the boringest thing, now I want to know more and more.”
